The petrified body of a young woman has
been found ten feet below the surface, in an excavation on Main
Street in Denison. The body was dressed in mourning with a long
white veil that reached from her head to her feet. The remains were
in a perfect state of preservation. The hair upon the head was long
and glossy and the hair was fastened up with a tortoiseshell comb,
which was partially destroyed when lifting the head out of the
earth. The feet were encased in a pair of green slippers with an
embossed rose leaf on the front. The stone corpse weighed about 100
pounds.
